I am super excited to announce that I will be teaching a special workshop next month at Thimbles & Threads in Draper, UT. It's about creating shapes using simple techniques. We'll be making heart blocks from my Open Heart pattern, as well as Cottage Blossoms mini quilts. The class will be held January 7, 2017 from 10 am to 5 pm. Love is in the air. (I'm looking at you, Grunge.) When I was looking for coordinating solids for my Sugar Pie fabric collection, I didn't have much luck with Moda Bella solids this time around. Then I found you, Grunge. We just belong together.
In case you're new to Grunge, it's a near-solid basic by BasicGrey for Moda. Everyone loves it. There are lots of colors and there are always new ones being added. It's seriously such a great basic. As you may already know, I used Grunge in Pear (30150 152) as the background in my Sugar Cookie quilt. It just adds another level of texture to your projects.
Here's the list of the coordinating Grunges by BasicGrey for Moda that work perfectly with my Sugar Pie fabric line shipping in March:
-30150 72 Sweetie
-30150 250 Salmon
-30150 155 Mint
-30150 163 Grey Couture
-30150 152 Pear
-30150 284 Clementine
-30150 115 Elafin
Now when it comes to thread, you know I'm an Aurifil girl through and through. I was SO delighted to get a sampling of various weights of thread in addition to my usual 50 wt for piecing. (Thanks, Alex!) Pictured is the Aurifil embroidery floss. Aren't they pretty spools?!
Here is that list of all the coordinating Aurifil colors that coordinate with Sugar Pie fabric--I always recommend 50 weight for piecing, but Aurifil offers a variety of thread weights based on your needs:

Here's a tasty little collection full of sugar and spice for your fabric pantry. First, mix together sweet posies, whimsical roses, and a pinch of candied lace--all in luscious colors that are good enough to eat. Next, stir in a cup of herringbone, add a dash of love, and mark it with a X. Don't forget sprinkles! Now you are ready to bake up a fresh batch of quilts and other stitched goodies for all the sweethearts in your life.
Sugar Pie fabric by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. Showing now at International Quilt Market in Houston, TX with a ship date of March 2017. Check out my post about the new quilt patterns here!
Here's a taste of the quilts I've designed using Sugar Pie fabric. The colors are so luscious and sweet. All of the patterns are now available in PDF or paper in my shop. Just a note that I'll be out of town until November 1 so if you order paper, they will ship when I return :)
Beachcomber can be made with either 1 Jelly Roll or 1 Layer Cake--plus an accent color. (I picked an aqua herringbone print from the collection as my neutral.) I pieced this quilt and then my friend Kaitlyn quilted it with these mesmerizing swirls. Sidenote: If you're looking for a fantastic long arm quilter, she is accepting new clients :)
You can't see it super well, but I've used a yellow sprinkle print from the collection as the background print. It just adds a bit of warmth and texture that I really dig. I am dying to make one of these with just boy colors!
If you're a fan of sawtooth stars, you'll adore Star Crossed. You can use a jelly roll or a layer cake to bake this one up!
Here's a closeup of the yummy clamshell quilting by Abby Latimer. I have never done the clamshells before and I have such a crush on them.
I might be a little partial to the next quilt, Sugar Cookie. This quilt uses 1 charm pack and was given its name because it reminds me of a pink frosted sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles. This design was just begging for custom quilting by Natalia Bonner. I dropped of the quilt to her and told her to have fun. She certainly did not disappoint, did she?! Just incredible.
For the background, I used BasicGrey's Grunge in Pear. I was happy to find that so many grunges coordinate with Sugar Pie. More about that later. Here's an overall shot of Sugar Cookie. It's got a giant barn star quality to it for sure. And one of my favorite things is you can make it with just 1 charm pack!
Now if you'd like a more traditional version, here's another Sugar Cookie quilt using a yellow sprinkles print for the background fabric. This one was pieced and quilted by my amazingly talented friend and fellow Moda designer, April Rosenthal. (Go check out her pattern shop and beautiful new line, Sweet Marion!)
Well! I'm getting ready to pack all these babies up and get on an airplane to Houston for International Quilt Market. I hope you like Sugar Pie and the new patterns. The fabric ships to ships March 2017 but you can find PDF and paper quilt patterns available in my shop now. Oh and you can get 10% off your entire order when you place it before November 1 and enter the promo code QUILTMARKET at checkout.

Blogging two days in a row? This is crazy talk. Welcome to the Moda hood!
Moda has put together a free house-themed quilt along and assigned all of the designers different house blocks :) It's a free pattern through quilt shops, read more about it here to know how to participate. And of course post your pics and find others on Instagram using the hashtag #ModaBeMyNeighbor.
I was assigned Block #4. Here are the blocks I mocked up using Olive's Flower Market fabric (shipping to shops next month).
I stitched up all three blocks and decided they were just begging to be made into house-shaped pillows. I think they turned out so cute. There are so many fun variations that could be done with this idea. I was in a rush, but I thought about adding a simple pocket on the back. Sky's the limit!

Hello cute people! Today it's my turn to share my block (Block #66) for the Splendid Sampler. If you aren't familiar with the Splendid Sampler, you can read about it here. In short, it's a super fun quilt sampler organized by Moda superstars Pat Sloan and Jane Davidson. Pat and Jane have rounded up 83 designers to contribute blocks for this project and I'm happy to be one of them! Don't worry if you haven't started yet--you can find all of the blocks on the Splendid Sampler website here (with two new blocks being released each week). There's also a huge Splendid Sampler facebook group here if you want to join in on the fun there--how fun is that?!
So here's a little about the inspiration for Block #66 "Happy Thoughts." It seems like every time I sit down to make a new quilt, I find myself immersed in a joyful place. Whether the quilt be for a neighbor, a friend, a new baby, or a precious family member, I imagine all the adventures this quilt will experience. I think of the laughter, the blanket forts, the picnics, and even the sick days full of snuggles. It isn't long before I find myself grinning with every single stitch. When we create something for another person, we are giving them a little piece of who we are. My block is a visual reminder of all the love/energy/time we put into our quilts.
